Opening An Account


As an Islamic business you may open a Current account or a Profit & Loss sharing saving account or both. Please use the correct terms & conditions, so for example if you want to open both a current and savings account you will need to sign both terms & conditions.

  1. Complete the interactive form(s) below and save/download them to your PC/laptop for printing and for signing, or
  2. Download, and print the form to then complete by hand and then sign.

At all times, please add your signature(s) before submitting to us for processing.


Please ensure that you bring all original documents. Click on the links below to identify which documents apply to the account you wish to open.

  1. FATCA supporting documents (if entity is a Passive NFFE, each beneficial owner is required to sign the FATCA Self-certification Form for Owners / Controlling Persons of Entities);
  2. CRS Entity Self Certification Form for Tax purposes;
  3. Resolution to appoint HBZ Bank as bankers and for Authorised Signatories to transact;
  4. Original or certified copy of South Africa Revenue Service document reflecting income tax registration number;
  5. Original or certified copy of South African Revenue Service document reflecting VAT registration number (if applicable);
  6. Specimen Signature Card (to be provided by the bank);
  7. Certified / Original seen copy(ies) of ID / Passport of all Shareholders, Directors, additional Signatory(ies) (if any) and the Manager.
  8. Residential Address verification document for all the above mentioned (< 3 months old)
  9. Business Address Verification document (< 3 months old)
  10. For companies registered after 1 May 2011:
    1. Original or certified copy of Memorandum of Incorporation (CoR 15.1A, B, C, D).
    2. Original or certified copy of Certificate of Registration of Company (CoR 14.3).
    3. Notice of Registered Office & Postal Address (CoR 21).
    4. Certificate of Change of Name (Cor 39), if company's name had changed.
  11. For companies registered before 1 May 2011:
    1. Original or certified copy of Memorandum (CM 2) & Articles of Association (CM 44).
    2. Original or certified copy of Certificate of Incorporation (CM 1).
    3. Original or certified copy of Certificate to Commence Business (CM46).
    4. Notice of Registered Office & Postal Address (CM 22).

In terms of FATCA, an NFFE is defined as an entity conducting an operating business that is not a financial institution and is mainly engaged in a manufacturing or commercial business.

A Passive NFFE is an entity that derives more than 50% of its income from interest, dividends, income equivalent to interest, rent and royalties, annuities, the excess of gains over losses from the sale or exchange of property etc.

  1. FATCA supporting documents (if entity is a Passive NFFE, each beneficial owner is required to sign the FATCA Self-certification Form for Owners / Controlling Persons of Entities);
  2. CRS Entity Self Certification Form for Tax purposes;
  3. Mandate by a Close Corporation appointing HBZ Bank as bankers and for Authorised Signatories to transact;
  4. Original or certified copy of South Africa Revenue Service document reflecting income tax registration number;
  5. Original or certified copy of South African Revenue Service document reflecting VAT registration number (if applicable);
  6. Original or certified copy of Founding Statement (CK1).
  7. If members have changed, please also provide a CK2;
  8. Letter from Accountant confirming appointment and interest percentage of members;
  9. Specimen Signature Card (to be provided by the bank);
  10. Original or certified copy of South Africa bar-coded identity document / valid passport of all Members, Additional Signatories (if any) and the Manager;
  11. Utility bill verifying the residential address of all Members, Manager and Additional Signatory/ies, which is not older than 3 months; and
  12. Utility bill verifying the business address, which is not older than 3 months.

Complex Partnership is a partnership other than simple partnership between natural persons

  1. FATCA supporting documents (if entity is a Passive NFFE, each beneficial owner is required to sign the FATCA Self-certification Form for Owners / Controlling Persons of Entities);
  2. CRS Entity Self Certification Form for Tax purposes;
  3. Resolution to appoint HBZ Bank as bankers and for Authorised Signatories to transact;
  4. Original or certified copy of South Africa Revenue Service document reflecting income tax registration number;
  5. Original or certified copy of South African Revenue Service document reflecting VAT registration number (if applicable);
  6. Original or certified copy of Partnership Agreement (if reduced to writing), else a letter from the Partners confirming that they have a verbal agreement.
  7. Letter from Accountant confirming appointment and Partners share;
  8. Specimen Signature Card (to be provided by the bank);
  9. Original or certified copy of South Africa bar-coded identity document / valid passport of all Partners including silent partners, Additional Signatories (if any) and the Manager;
  10. Utility bill verifying the residential address of all Partners including silent partners, Manager and Additional Signatory/ies, which is not older than 3 months; and
  11. Utility bill verifying the business address of the partnership, which is not older than 3 months.

In terms of FATCA, an NFFE is defined as an entity conducting an operating business that is not a financial institution and is mainly engaged in a manufacturing or commercial business.

A Passive NFFE is an entity that derives more than 50% of its income from interest, dividends, income equivalent to interest, rent and royalties, annuities, the excess of gains over losses from the sale or exchange of property etc.

A simple partnership is a partnership between natural persons

  1. FATCA Individual Self-certification Form for each partner with supporting documents, if required, namely Completed W-8BEN form or W-9 form (for a US Citizens / Residents / Green Card Holders / US Tax payers). In case of having been born in the US or a US Territory, but nonetheless you believe that you are not a "U.S. Person" under U.S. tax principles supply a copy of your Certificate of Loss of Nationality, together with a W-8BEN form and a copy of your non-US passport. In case of other US indicia (US Telephone Number, U.S. Postal / E-mail Address), complete & sign W-8BEN form & supply a Non-US Passport / Residence / Study / Work Permit / Government Issued ID.
  2. CRS Individual Self-certification Forms for Tax purposes for all partners, including silent partners;
  3. Partnership Agreement (if reduced to writing), else a letter from the Partners confirming that they have a verbal agreement.
  4. Resolution to appoint HBZ Bank as bankers and for Authorised Signatories to transact;
  5. Original or certified copy of South Africa Revenue Service document reflecting income tax registration number;
  6. Original or certified copy of South African Revenue Service document reflecting VAT registration number (if applicable);
  7. Letter from Book Keeper confirming appointment by Partners / Letter from Partners confirming who the Book Keeper is;
  8. Specimen Signature Card (to be provided by the bank)
  9. Original or certified copy of South Africa barcoded identity document / valid passport of Partners, including silent partners, Additional Signatories (if any) and the Manager;
  10. Utility bill verifying the residential address of the Partners, including silent partners, Additional Signatory/ies and the Manager, which is not older than 3 months; and
  11. Utility bill verifying the business address, which is not older than 3 months.

  1. FATCA Individual Self-certification Form with supporting documents, if required, namely Completed W-8BEN form or W-9 form (for a US Citizens / Residents / Green Card Holders / US Tax payers).   3. Original or certified copy of South Africa Revenue Service document reflecting income tax registration number;
  4. Original or certified copy of South African Revenue Service document reflecting VAT registration number (if applicable);
  5. Letter from Book Keeper confirming appointment by Sole Proprietorship / Letter from Sole Proprietor confirming who the Book Keeper is;
  6. Specimen Signature Card (to be provided by the bank).
  7. Original or certified copy of South Africa bar-coded identity document / valid passport of Sole Proprietor, Additional Signatories (if any) and the Manager;
  8. Utility bill verifying the residential address of the Sole Proprietor, Manager and Additional Signatory(ies), which is not older than 3 months; and
  9. Utility bill verifying the business address, which is not older than 3 months.

  1. FATCA supporting documents (if entity is a Passive NFFE, each beneficial owner is required to sign the FATCA Self-certification Form for Owners / Controlling Persons of Entities);

  11. Utility bill verifying the residential address of all Trustees, Beneficiaries, Manager and Additional Signatory(ies), which is not older than 3 months; and
  12. Utility bill verifying the business address, which is not older than 3 months.

  11. Utility bill verifying the residential address of all Governing Body members, Manager and Additional Signatory(ies), which is not older than 3 months; and
  12. Utility bill verifying the business address, which is not older than 3 months.

Please ensure that you bring all original documents.

  1. Your Original South African bar-coded identity document / valid passport (for Foreign nationals & Non-residents) or a certified copy of those of your guardian / curator (for minors, insolvents and legally incapacitated persons);

  2. For Non-residents, a work / study / temporary residence permit and contract with the relevant business / educational institute, or a Section 22, 24 or Department of Home Affairs refugee ID (plus a Declaration by Non Resident Opening Bank Accounts in South Africa); and an Introduction letter from your foreign bankers;

  3. A utility bill verifying your residential address, which is not older than 3 months and that of your guardian / curator (for minors and legally incapacitated persons);

  4. Letter of executorship and death certificate of the diseased (for Estate Late accounts); or a letter of curatorship (for Insolvents & legally incapacitated persons); or FIC Act Exemption 4 certificate (Declaration by Attorney Investing Funds on behalf of a Client);

  5. Completed W-8BEN form or W-9 form (for a US Citizens / Residents / Green Card Holders / US Tax payers);

  6. In case of having been born in the US or a US Territory, but believe that you are not a "U.S. Person" under U.S. tax principles supply a copy of your Certificate of Loss of Nationality, a W-8BEN form and a copy of your non-US passport.

  7. In case of other US indicia (US Telephone Number, U.S. Postal / E-mail Address), complete & sign a W-8BEN form & Non-US Passport / Residence / Study / Work Permit / Government Issued ID.

  8. South African Revenue Service document reflecting your South African income tax number (if registered);

  9. Specimen Signature Card (to be provided by the bank);

  10. Third party mandate for additional signatory(ies), if applicable;

  11. Original South African bar-coded identity document / valid passport of the additional signatory(ies) or a certified copy of his / her South African bar-coded identity document / valid passport;

  12. If third party signatory(ies) is / are a US person(s), account holder to complete W-8BEN from and provide Non-US passport / Residence / Study / Work Permit / Government Issued ID and

  13. Utility bill verifying the residential address of the additional signatory(ies), which is not older than 3 months.
