All banks that are members of the Banking Association of South Africa have agreed to adhere to the Code of Banking Practice on a voluntary basis. The Code is not a statutory code, rather it is based on self-regulation and exists as a voluntary code of conduct.
The Code of Banking Practice sets out the basic principles in the relationship between a bank and its client. These principles make a bold and committed statement to clients that banks are serious about treating them fairly in their relationship when a dispute arises.
